Extract from our grow guide

Cannabis is an annual herb - that is to say it germinates, flowers, sets seed and dies in one year. Male and female flowering parts appear on separate plants (although it is possible to grow hermaphrodites).

Cannabis has two main varieties, cannabis sativa and cannabis indica.

Sativa is characterised by a tall growth habit, slender fingered leaves, lowish flower to leaf ratio and rather long flowering period.

Indica is characterised by a bushier growth pattern with wider fingered leaves, a higher flower to leaf ratio and a shorter, more predictable flowering period.

When smoked, sativa gives a clear, up, cerebral high while indica produces a 'stonier' more physical hit. In the last few decades, enthusiasts have created sativa/indica hybrids which combine the best features of both varieties.

The weather in the UK does not entirely suit the requirements of what is, essentially, a tropical plant. This guide attempts to show how a carefully controlled environment coupled with a suitable choice of plant variety can produce herb of the highest quality. In the author's opinion, herb grown organically tastes and smells better than hydroponically grown; therefore a compost-based method is fully described but fans of hydroponic methods will find that the principles outlined still hold good.

I discovered hemp cultivation in 1983, with seeds from Thailand, which I planted outdoors.  The results didn’t prove great at all, but my love for this plant has remained ever since. In 1989, as I was bringing back seeds from Mexico, I had the idea to enhance some of the strains I had been practising with for a number of years. I then collected seeds from various countries, Pakistan, Columbia, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Namibia, Morocco, India, Hawaii, Nepal.

I worked on some of these strains, as well as more commercial strains,
always with the idea to please myself and to get exactly the strains
that would satisfy my requirements.
Years later, as I was sharing my results with some friends
(who have supported and encouraged me ever since),
the idea of establishing the Tikiseedbank germinated in my mind

Cross between our Bambata and our Shulam. These two parents make this African sorceress an exceptional strain.
It has inherited the best traits of its parents. Sativa for the buds and indica for the size and the quick flowering.

Cross of Afghan origin, slightly more fruity than a classic Afghani. This small sized plant, very dense, very soon produces many branches and very broad leaves.

It shows a heavy crystallisation and a powerful fragrance, even in veg. With its large and very compact flowers, this strain is ideal for direct flowering from cuts. Its small size makes it very convenient in small spaces. A rebirth of Shiva that’ll be pleasing for the convinced amateur and for the first time discoverer alike.
